Lots of wheelbarrows, rakes and shovels were in action when the young men and women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brookings ascended on Stout Park Wednesday evening to spread wood chips around the trees and bushes.

The city is sprucing up the park in preparation for the Festival of Art in Stout Park, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4.  This was a community service activity for the youth.

The Kids Art Zone at the festival will be coordinated by Jodi Harvey and the Rotarian Youth Group. The youth will be helping her with the many activities she has planned. Young people attending the festival will be able to make wind socks, murals, bookmarks and many other exciting things, said festival organizer Vi Burton.

The Kids Art Zone will be located in the grassy area around Manley Art Center and Gallery at 433 Oak St.  Parents can check their children in with Harvey and crew, enjoy the wine bar and shop with the 45 art vendors who will be taking part in the festival.

Stout Park is located on Oak Street between Redwood Street and the Brookings Presbyterian Church and surrounds the Manley Art Center and Gallery.
