CRESCENT CITY – Anita Chen will perform both piano and violin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St.
Her performance will be the third Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association concert of the 2011-12 season.
Chen launched her career as a professional soloist at Carnegie Hall in 2002, at the age of 11, performing on both violin and piano with the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble. Returning to Carnegie Hall in 2009, Anita made her recital debut in a program featuring Cimarosa, Mozart, Schubert, Liszt, Prokofiev and Markov, performing one half of the concert on piano and the other on violin.
In 2006, Anita made her recording debut on the Bel Air Music BAM label with Russia’s Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Dmitry Yablonsky, featuring E.Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and J. Conus’s Violin Concerto and Formosa Capriccio by Albert Markov.
Born in America in July 1991 to Taiwanese parents who are both musicians, Chen began to study the piano at age 4 and, within a year, she added the violin. At age 7, she was accepted into the pre-college division at Juilliard School. She has won many piano and violin competitions and recently, competing on the violin, was the winner of the GBS Carlson-Horn Competition.
Chen lives in New York City and is studying piano with Oxana Yablonskaya in Italy and the U.S. and violin with Albert Markov.
The Crescent City concert will feature pieces by Beethoven, Grieg, and Corelli on violin, and Rachmaninoff and Liszt on piano.
