|Local orchestra announces concerts at three venues|

The Curry-Del Norte Orchestra Guild has announced the dates and locations for the orchestra’s spring concert series.
Performances are planned in Gold Beach, Brookings, and Crescent City.
The Gold Beach concert will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 Fifth St.; the Crescent City concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Elk Valley Rancheria, 2332 Howland Hill Road; and the Brookings concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St.
Admission for these concerts is $10 for adults. Students through grade 12 will be admitted free. Ticket outlets include Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach, Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City, and Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The concerts will feature works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods as well as some contemporary selections. The major work on the program is the “Karelia Suite,” a collection of orchestral pieces written by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Christie Lynn Rust will perform Giuseppe Torelli’s “Concerto in D for Trumpet and String Orchestra.” Brookings residents Sue Gold and Charlotte Heatherly will perform French composer Leo Delibes’ beautiful “Flower Duet” from the opera “Lakme.” Additional selections will include works by George Gershwin, Jean Gabriel Marie, Giacomo Meyerbeer, and Stephen Flaherty.
The orchestra, directed by Gold Beach resident and retired Oregon music educator Gary DeRoest, is comprised of local musicians.
