Living Waters Foursquare Church was among several churches who offered alternative activities to Halloween festivities Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Other churches with activities included Lighthouse Assembly of God with its annual Harvest Party that included costume contests and hay rides, trunk and treat at First Baptist Community Church and Brookings Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a harvest party at Brookings Church of the Nazarene.

The Foursquare church opened its doors to children Wednesday night for its first harvest celebration with activities for children and adults who were willing to let the child in them have a good time.

Indoor games included a cake walk, dart throw, basketball shoot, a tic-tac-toe toss, ring toss and Plinko. Candy was the prize for winning any games. Children could buy tickets and redeem them for the games.

In addition to the games held indoors, people could spend their tickets on having their face painted by Alissa Jenkins, who said she would draw anything beyond the samples. After one person requested a tropical island sunset, the drawing became popular. The inch by inch-and-a-half drawing depicted a sandy beach with a palm tree and the sun setting on the ocean horizon.

Outdoor games included moving-target practice with paintball guns and go-cart rides. Gerald Hamm, who served as one of the moving targets admitted being hit in the face with a paintball was painful.

For people who got hungry playing games, or were tired of candy, soda pop, hot dogs and popcorn also was available.
