Brookings-Harbor Community Theater is preparing the Harbor Performing Arts Center stage for the upcoming musical “Grease,” which opens Friday, May 18.
Opening night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an ice cream social featuring root beer floats and a sundae bar sponsored by Grocery Outlet.
The action centers around the fictional Rydell High School class of 1959, which includes hubcap-stealing, hot rod-loving boys and their gum-chewing, wise-cracking girlfriends in bobby sox and pedal pushers.
While hip Danny Zuko (Scott Perry) and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski (Crissy Perry) resolve the problems of their mutual attraction, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace and the drive in movie.
Songs include “Summer Nights,” “We Go Together,” “Look at Me I’m Sandra Dee” and “Beauty School Dropout.”
The gang includes Ariel Farris as Rizzo, Sean Farris is Kenickie, Patricia Goodwin as Frenchy, Camryn Ridgley as Marty, Kristen Mitchell as Jan, Andrew Simmons as Roger, Steven Nagel as Doody, Scott Oka as Sonny, Barbara Holmes as Patty Simcox, Ethan Hodges as Eugene, Teri McGregor as Miss Lynch, Todd Pearson as Johnny Casino, Ian Hannum as Vince Fontaine, Todd Pearson as Teen Angel, Amy Terebesi as Cha-Cha, and Dylan Panter as Eddie Zuko. Cheerleaders include Megan Hulen, Katherine McPherson, Brittney Lawson and Colleen Gibson.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through June 2, and 2 p.m. Sundays through June 3. In addition, there will be a special fundraiser performance for Soroptimist International of Brookings at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31.
Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $9 for seniors and $7 students, except for the benefit performance, and can be purchased at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor, and at the door.
