Area residents who have never been to the Winter Art and Chocolate Festival, this may the year to go.

At this family friendly event — which takes place in the Brookings-Harbor High School cafeteria on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14 — there will be something new throughout the venue, said David Willhite, event organizer.

Since its beginning five years ago, the festival has drawn thousands of visitors from throughout Southwestern Oregon. At the show guests may enjoy a variety of handmade arts and crafts, Oregon-made chocolates and participate in chocolate eating contests.

Artisans from around the region will present their best wares for sale from jewelry and hats to wooden spoons, hand-painted silk scarves, leather work and handmade goods. Painters and potters also plan to set up booths.

“Whether you like practical and useful items or fanciful and decorative, there will be something for every taste,” Willhite said.

Chocolates from around the state will be available, including Branson’s from Ashland, Moonstruck from Portland, Cherry Country from Salem, Cary’s of Oregon from Grants Pass and others.

“You’ll find truffles with nuts, fruits, liquors and even hot peppers,” Willhite said.  “There will be chocolate turtles, caramels, peanut butters and jellies. Come early and you might even get some chocolate coated kettle corn.”

Chocolate eating contests will take place at 2 p.m. both days.

General admission is $1, children 12 and younger are admitted free.
