The Curry/Del Norte Orchestra will feature performances by local guest artist Christy Dolan when the ensemble presents concerts in Gold Beach, Crescent City and Brookings on Dec. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
Dolan will perform “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Camille Saint Saens.
Under the direction of Gary DeRoest, the orchestra will also be performing works by Benjamin Britten, Gustav Holst, Giacomo Puccini, and Ferdinand Herold.
Dolan started playing the piano when she was 5 years old. By the age of 13 she was presented in her first public solo recital in Chicago. She attended the University of Southern California on a full scholarship as a piano performance major.
After college, her performance career continued with solo recitals and appearances as a soloist with symphony orchestras. She has performed piano concertos by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Gershwin, Rachmaninoff and others.
Dolan has also taught piano privately for 44 years. Many of her students are scattered throughout the United States with music performance careers and as university level piano instructors. Christy and her husband, Phillip, retired to Brookings in 2007.
The Gold Beach concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at at Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 Fifth St.
The Crescent City concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Elk Valley Rancheria, 2332 Howland Hill Road.
The Brookings concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at Brookings Seventh-day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave.
Admission for these concerts is $10 for adults. Students through grade 12 will be admitted free. Ticket outlets include Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply in Brookings, Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach and Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City. Tickets will also be available at the door a half hour prior to the performance.
