Brookings resident Victoria Gobron, who suffers from the brain disorder Chiari Malfromation, is hosting a fundraiser walk at 9 a.m. today (Sept. 28) to bring awareness and attention to the disorder.
The free event will begin at the Sporthaven parking lot at the Port of Brookings Harbor.
Gobron said that many people do not know about the brain disorder, which is estimated to affect one in 1,000 people. Chiari malformations are structural defects of the cerebellum, causing it to descend into the spinal cord. It can cause pain, difficulty sleeping, balance problems, muscle weakness and other serious symptoms.
