A team leads women in worship during conference.
A Celebration of Praise brought 217 women from 37 churches, representing 14 denominations from McKinleyville, Calif., to Coos Bay, to worship together at the Brookings Church of the Nazarene on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17.

This Celebration of Praise was the 10th anniversary of the Women’s South Coast Christian Conference, initiated by Brookings resident Sandy Dose in April 2001.

Dose said that she was led to found the women’s conference to make it available to all on the South Coast and Northern California rather than having to travel hundreds of miles to attend an inspirational conference.

Two Christian women speakers, Judy Dippel and Janice Mayo Mathers, inspired participants with messages of hope and love.

Mathers is a conference and retreat speaker who specializes in encouraging women to see adverse situations as godly challenges. During the conference she used her skill at role-playing the part of Noah’s wife to remind the women that God is with them even in the most difficult situations. Her ability as a published writer worked well in preparing Mrs. Noah’s sometimes humorous, often touching, script.

Dippel, who said that it is a great privilege to speak to women, blends her love for people with her passion to share what God has taught her during the challenges and struggles of life and to share a message of God’s friendship, love, guidance, and faithfulness.

A worship team led by committee member Marjorie Towers opened the session with praise music. The Grace Bible Church choir also presented special music and led congregational singing.

Participants enjoyed the special music provided by soloist Ann Horton, pianist Lorraine Williams, and flutist Ora Hess.

Saturday afternoon, as the participants were leaving the church, comments were positive.

“Jan and Judy were anointed by God and we received the benefit.”

“Wow! Please continue this wonderful ministry. What a great weekend to spend with God.”

“If anything, please add one more day.”

“Happy day!”

In response to that encouragement, Dose and her 12-member committee are already preparing to start planning for the 11th South Coast Christian Women’s Conference 2011.
