The Brookings-Harbor High School class of 2002 came closer to having a Safe and Sober Graduation party thanks to 259 businesses, people and other entities that contributed to the Bruin Bash Saturday night.

The Safe and Sober Graduation party is an all-night event at Wild River Pizza following commencement exercises in June.

The bash was a live and silent auction of donated items that filled the high school gym. People could pay for a bid paddle and purchase items of interest. Auctioneer was Terry Hanscam, who was assisted by Pat McVay.

It was not known at press time how much was earned or how many bidders were present. It was apparent that attendance was down from last year.

Bidders and those who came to watch also had the opportunity to enjoy a large selection of desserts contributed by senior class parents. While eating desserts in the cafeteria, people were also treated to soloists from the high schools jazz ensemble, Sea Breeze. Accompanying the choir members was their director, Jerry Moffit.

Items in the live auction included a football autographed by University of Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, a nights lodging with breakfast for two and kayak rental from Chetco River Inn and Riverside Market, four Oakland As tickets, two San Francisco Giants tickets, four complete prime rib dinners and a one-month club workout provided by Price n Pride and Fifth Street Health and Fitness, and a certificate for two 80-mile trips on Rogue River Mail Boats.

Silent auction items included a subscription to the Gold Beach-based Backwoods Home Magazine and its anthology set, a gift certificate from Delaneys bakery, several items from The Marketplace, sweatshirts from several Oregon universities and from other states, full-service lube and oil change from Quality Fast Lube, and several used pieces of office equipment from Seal Cove Realty.
