Open country is all to be seen from the edge of Brookings in the early 20th century. At left is Moire’s Butte, a former landmark that has been leveled. Les Schwab Tire Center sits at the location of the butte. The Pilot/Submitted photo
This project is meant to be along the lines of the book “Oregon –Then and Now” by Steve Tirrell. If you haven’t seen the book, it’s available at the Chetco Community Public Library. What I am doing is making a collection of old photographs of the town of Brookings that I got from the Chetco Valley Historical Society museum. Then I retook the photographs at the present day location as closely as I could.
Editor’s note: Westbrook took many photos. More will be published in future editions of the Curry Coastal Pilot.
