There was never a slow moment, thanks to a steady crowd, for volunteers cooking and serving food at the 31st annual Cape Ferrelo Fish Fry last Saturday.
According to Jack Worrall, Cape Ferrelo Fire Department board member, more than 650 people were served a dinner of locally caught albacore and cod, garlic bread, Caesar salad and desserts. The albacore was wrapped in bacon, marinated and barbecued over an open flame. The cod was beer battered and deep fried.
In addition to the meal, those attending purchased raffle tickets for many prizes, bringing in a total of more than $4,000 before event expenses, Worrall said.
Dianna Blazo drew tickets and announced the winners. Winners are being called to pick up their prizes.
“I wish to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped us put on the best fish fry on the coast,” Blazo said “Also to all our wonderful sponsor that have supported us year after year with their generous prizes for our raffle. We can’t do it without them.”
Money received during the event will go into the general fund, part of which will go toward paying off the department’s new fire truck, Worrall said.
