PORT ORFORD – Southwestern Oregon Community College and Port Orford Ocean Team are cosponsoring “Weather for Mariners,” a presentation by National Weather Service meteorologist, Sven Nelaimischkies.

This free program is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Port Orford Library community room.

Commercial and recreational fishermen and other ocean sport enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.

This National Weather Service presentation will teach you about weather patterns across the Pacific Northwest, especially their local effects for the Southern Oregon Coast.

Attendees will learn about the dangers of high winds, steep waves, treacherous bar conditions in winter storms, and about severe summer thunderstorms.

They’ll also find out where to get the most up-to-date and accurate forecast information before heading to the ocean.

There is no cost for this program and it is open to the public.

For more information, contact the Gold Beach Center at 541-247-2741 or Ryan Sandler at 541-776-4303, ext. 223.
