Scrooge story airs on KURY

Marley may be dead as a door-nail, but the great Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” is alive and well, and will be performed as an old-time radio show at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, on Brookings’ KURY Radio, 95.3 FM.

The radio show will be performed live by a dozen community voice actors of varying ages.

“Grab your family and curl-up on the sofa with blankies and hot cocoa while listening to a classic Christmas story with the family!” said Dori Blodgett, of the Brookings Harbor Community Theater.

The cast includes Rick DeHaven as Scrooge and Tony Hobbs as the Ghost of Christmas Present. The various parts will be performed by Brad McPherson, Dori Blodgett, Ron Lewis, Everett Van Maren, Daniel Pearson, Jacque Graves, Scott Graves, Alia Graves, Teri McGregor and Bev Tracy.

Sound effects will be performed by Lynette and Katherine McPherson.

The story follows the miser Ebenezer Scrooge in a tale of redemption after three ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve.  He is so moved by these spirits that he awakens on Christmas morning now grateful and generous.

“It’s just exciting,” said KURY DJ Kevin Bane, who is overseeing the broadcast. “I listened to a lot of old time radio with my parents, so I’m really into this. I like to having a cast do the show live in the studio.”
