World-renown reggae recording artist Pato Banton and his band The Now Generation will perform a free concert on Thursday, April 4, at the 101 Bar and Grill in Harbor.
Local reggae singer/songwriter Sequoyah Oregon will be the opening act.
“Pato is recognized the world over, with over 30 years in the business and 25 albums to his name,” said event promoter Evan Dunn. “This will be Pato’s first time in Brookings and it is not a show to be missed!”
According to Dunn, the Los Angeles-based Banton is on the West Coast leg of his national tour and was looking for a place to perform between shows in Eureka, Calif., and Medford.
“I contacted Austin (Tidwell) at the 101 Bar and Grill and he said ‘let’s do it!’” Dunn explained. “Austin is the one who’s really making this happen.”
Tidwell said the bar is paying Banton and his band a fee and covering the cost of their hotel rooms for the night.
“It really is a treat for the community,” Tidwell said.
The 101 Bar & Grill at the corner of Highway 101 and West Benham Lane. The doors open at 8 p.m. The concert starts at 9 p.m. This is a 21-and-older event.

“Positive vibrations abound with a beat to keep you on your dancing feet, while Pato delivers a message that is food for the mind and soul,” according to Banton’s website, www.patobanton.com.
The web site states: “Many have considered his charismatic performance as live theatre, where no show is alike and audience members become participants in the experience. Pato dialogues with the crowd on a range of topics including current day events and spiritual freedom while keeping the vibes upbeat and fun!”
