The Pistol River Concert Association announces the appearance of the contemporary Irish group The Colleen Raney Band, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road.
Raney, who lives in Portland, has toured the U.S. and Ireland. Joining her on stage will be Zac Leger on guitar and bouzouki and Johnny B. Connolly on button accordion.
Leger holds numerous medals on various instruments from both the U.S. and Ireland, including an All-Ireland medal on the uilleann pipes, one of few Americans to hold this title. As an accompanist on guitar and bouzouki, he provides rhythmic, counter-point and harmonic lines, according to a news release.
Connolly was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. He began playing when he was 8 and by age 15 he was a regular feature around his hometown, performing with musicians sometimes twice his age. In 1996 Johnny seized an opportunity to bring his skills to America. In 2001 he signed with Green Linnet records and released his first album titled “Bridgetown,” named after his adopted hometown of Portland, according to a news release.
While based in Portland, Connolly tours internationally, performing at festivals, concerts, and schools.
Tickets are $15 and available at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings and at Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach. Tickets may also be reserved online at http://www.pistolriver.com or by calling 541-247-2848.
