Thursday, Oct. 20

•Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings, is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest beginning today. Bring a decorated pumpkin to the library through Thursday, Oct. 27. Judging will take place and winners announced on Friday, Oct. 28. The public is welcome to come in during the week to choose their favorite. For information, call the library at 541-469-7738.

Thursday, Oct. 27

•The Chetco Pelican Players will host its annual haunted house at the West Coast Appliance building, Highway 101 and East Hoffeldt Lane, Harbor. Tours will be nightly, beginning at 7 p.m. until people stop showing up, through Monday, Oct. 31. Admission is $8.

Friday, Oct. 28

•Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings, will host Ghost Stories Night at 7 p.m. Kalmiopsis Elementary School first-grade teacher Dan Rotterman will open the night with gholish poems assisted by first-grade alumni. Dori Blodgett will read stories and lead in the singing of spooky songs.

Saturday, Oct. 29

•The second annual Brookings Zombie Walk will be from 1 to 4 p.m. beginning at Stout Park and progressing down Chetco Avenue to Northgate Center and returning to Stout Park. Meet at the park in costume, or come and be a victim for zombies to prey upon during the walk. Makeup assistance will be available at the park. The event is for all ages.

•Brookings Merchants Association hosts Halloween in the Heart of Brookings from 2 to 4 p.m. Wear a costume to participating Brookings merchants and receive a treat. Participating merchants will have a sign in the window. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Prior to the event, people may make a free treat bag from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at MoJoe’s, 625 Chetco Ave., Brookings. 

•A traditional Harvest Dance will be at 8 p.m. at Ship Ashore Resort, 12370 Highway 101, Smith River. The dance will feature rock ’n’ roll music.

Sunday, Oct. 30

•A Spectacular Haunted House will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rogue Grange Community Center, Nesika and Grange roads, Nesika Beach. Admission is a $3 donation for one person or $10 for a family.

Monday, Oct. 31

•Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings, will host a Halloween lunch with treats, stories and games from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests are invited to wear costumes. Prizes will be awarded for scariest, most original and most comical outfit. For information, call 541-469-6822.

•The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 770 Elk Drive, Brookings, will have its annual Trunk or Treat at 5 p.m. There will be trick or treating in the church parking lot and other events inside the building.

•Brookings Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Ave., Brookings, will have a Harvest Party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event will include games, prizes and candy.
