Countertenor performs Sunday concert

Terry Barber
Terry Barber
CRESCENT CITY – Terry Barber, a multi-talented vocalist who sings all voice registers from low to high, will perform at the Crescent Elk Auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14.

The concert will kick off the Del Norte-Curry Concert Association’s 2012-13 season.

Barber, an American countertenor, has been featured on some of the world’s most prominent stages and has worked with many of the music industry’s most prestigious songwriters, composers and producers. His recorded voice has appeared on may major labels, as well as his own, rEvolv Music.

As a member of the multiple Grammy-winning ensemble Chanticleer, Terry was called “...the jewel in Chanticleer’s crown...” With them, he worked his way through the repertoire performing opera, classical, gospel, jazz and folk music in a dozen languages at more than a hundred concerts around the globe.

In 2002, Barber joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera for its staging of “Sly,” starring Placido Domingo. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2004 singing the role of Orlovsky in “Die Fledermaus” with the National Chorale under Martin Josman.

In 2009, Barber founded Artist for a Cause, a nonprofit corporation created to organize collaborations between artists and the charities they support. His personal performance project for the organization, “A Sacred Journey,” features himself singing sacred music in the baritone, tenor, alto, and soprano ranges. The U.S. tour began in early 2010, has its 35th performance this year, and has raised thousands of dollars for community outreach.

Barber’s Sunday afternoon program will include classical and operatic favorites, American folk songs, and Broadway tunes.

Tickets for the performance are $15 for adults and free for children and students with identification. Season memberships will be available for $45, which provides admission to four concerts.
