Wild Rivers Coast events for June 23 and beyond

Harris Beach Campground Programs

The evening programs at Harris Beach State Park continues at 8:30 p.m. near space C22, and are open to both campers and the public. Plans for this week include country music by Rapp Brush on Thursday, June 26, and tsunamis on Tuesday, July 1. For information, call 541-469-2021.

"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"

The Chetco Pelican Players present "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" on weekends from Friday, June 20, through Sunday, July 6. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, all at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. For information, call 541-469-1877.

"The Quest"

Brookings Harbor Community Theater presents "The Quest: A Fairy Tale with an Attitude" on weekends from Friday, June 20, through Sunday, June 29. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, all at the Harbor Performing Arts Center in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center. Call 541-661-2473 for information.


Mountain Men Rendezvous

The 36th annual Jed Smith Mountain Men Tall Trees Rendezvous camps from Friday, June 27, through Thursday, July 3, at the Del Norte Rod & Gun Club on Rowdy Creek Road, Smith River. Shooting and other competitions take place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 through July 3. For information, call 707-464-5119.

Concert in the park

The 2014 American Music Festival summer concerts in Azalea Park host the Celtic group Golden Bough in a performance beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the park’s bandshell.  For information, call 541-661-3033.

Bluegrass on the Boardwalk

Bluegrass on the Boardwalk starts up at 1 p.m. Friday, July 4, as part of the 4th of July fun at the Port of Brookings Harbor. Other events during the day include the Funky Foot Race at 9 a.m. and the annual Chili Cookoff at 1 p.m.  For information, call 541-469-2218.

Crescent City Fourth of July

Holiday activities at Crescent City start with a Sand Castle Contest from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 3, near the Fred Endert Pool, the Art and Craft Show, (see below), and the Deck Party on the Cultural Center Lawn. On Friday the 4th of July, vendors open at 8 a.m. in the park, the parade starts at 10 a.m. through downtown, the Art and Craft Show continues, Firefighter’s Waterball Competition starts at 1 p.m. on Front Street, and activities continue through the fireworks show at dusk.

Art and Craft Show

The Coast Redwoods Art Association stages its annual Art and Craft Show from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 3, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the Crescent City Cultural Arts Center, 1001 Front St., Crescent City.

BBQ Wars Battle at the Beach

The third annual BBQ Wars Battle at the Beach is part of the overall  fun on the Fourth of July at Beachfront Park in Crescent City. For information, call 707-464-3174.

Port Orford Fourth of July

The holiday in Port Orford starts on Friday, July 4, starting with a pancake breakfast, a parade at 11 a.m., along with an afternoon that includes a sandcastle contest, flower show, outdoor activities at several businesses, dingy races at 1 p.m., Jerry Can Races on Coast Guard Hill at 3 p.m., and music until the fireworks at dusk. Fireworks displays

There are fireworks displays on Fourth of July scheduled for dusk on Friday, July 4 at:

– Sporthaven Beach in Brookings-Harbor.

– South Beach in downtown Crescent City.

– The Port of Gold Beach.

– Battle Rock in Port Orford.

– Bullard’s Beach State Park in Bandon.

Relay for Life, Curry County

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Curry County steps off with a Survivor’s Lap at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Elmer Bankus Field of Brookings-Harbor High School. The fun and fund-raising continues all night, including the Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m., lighting the way for a Midnight Madness 5K. For information, call 541-661-2018.

Friends of Music/Stagelights concert

Friends of Music and Stagelights Musical Arts Community presents Taarka in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. Tickets are $15 and available at the Curry Coastal Pilot and at the door.
