•Brookings-Harbor Red Shirts invites the public to help pack boxes to send to American troops serving overseas. The group meets at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 15803 Highway 101, Harbor. Donations of food, snacks and hygiene items are always welcome. The group also accepts the address of any American soldier serving overseas. Saturday, Sept. 17

•Smith River Rancheria hosts Dee-ní Day – an annual celebration of California Native American Day – from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Howonquet Hall Community Center. The free event includes cultural demonstrations and activities, vendors and food.

•The Confederated Tribes of the Lower Rogue – Tututni and Chetco people – is sponsoring the 18th annual Gathering of the People at Big Bend, about five miles upstream from Agness, just past Foster Bar. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a salmon dinner served at 5. The event will continue Sunday, Sept. 18, with a pancake breakfast beginning at 10 a.m. and canoe races in the afternoon.

•A Tea Party event will be at 2 p.m. at Azalea Middle School, 505 Pacific Ave., Brookings. The speaker is Bend attorney Dan Re who will discuss the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and the $1 billion to be paid into the system over the next two years.

•The Calvin E. Murphy Detatchment 578, Marine Corps League, meets at noon at Sebastian’s Seafood Grill, 16011 Boat Basin Road, Harbor. All active duty, retired and honorably discharged Marines and Navy Corpsmen are invited. For information, call 541-251-4167.

•The semi-annual SOLV Beach and Riverside Cleanup will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Report for assignments at the welcome center at Harris Beach Rest Area, Brookings; the Port of Gold Beach, Ophir State Recreation Area; or Battle Rock State Wayside in Port Orford.

•Sole Pursuits will lead a hike along the Old Coast Highway near Humbug Mountain and discuss the Red Fish Rocks Marine Research Reserve The walk is mostly paved, with a gentle slope. •Brookings Masons will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 416 Azalea Park Road, Brookings. Pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy will be served. A $7 donation is requested. Children younger than 5 eat free.

Monday, Sept. 19

•The Brookings-Harbor Garden Club will meet at Flora Pacifica, 15447 Oceanview Drive, Harbor, at 11:30 a.m. Attendees should bring a bag lunch, drinks and chairs. There will be a short meeting at noon followed by a tour of the business. Parking is in the back of the property. Anyone interested in gardening is invited to attend. •Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) meets at 6:30 pm.. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 94261 Moore St., Gold Beach. Tuesday, Sept. 20

•Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. in the Chetco Activity Center dining room, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings. The group is for anyone who cares for, or has a family member living with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementia. The facilitators are Bharti Patel and Dana Maciel.

•Oasis Shelter Home provides a haven for women and their children to be free of domestic violence, sexual abuse and resulting homelessness. •The Pregnancy Care Center – also known as P.C.C. Connections – of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. •CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
