Friday, Oct. 21

•Friends of the Library general meeting will be at 2 p.m. at Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings. City Manager Gary Milliman will speak on current and future projects in downtown Brookings. Light refreshments will be served. The meeting is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend.

•A Coast Trail Work Day will be from 9 a.m. to noon along a section beginning a mile north of Arizona Beach to just south of Reinhart Creek, about halfway between Gold Beach and Port Orford. Tools will be provided. Volunteers should bring their own water and wear work shoes. A second work day will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 22.

•The Chetco River Watershed Council will host a cleanup along the Chetco River from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed. Meet at Loeb State Park.

•Curry County Democrats from Brookings will have a potluck gathering, to become better aquainted with those in the rest of the county, The event will be at the Port Orford Library, 1421 Oregon St. All area Democrats and progressive independents are welcome. •A special evening Bat Talk and Night Walk will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Mill Creek Campground amphitheater in Del Norte Redwoods State Park six miles south of Crescent City on Highway 101.

•Sole Pursuits will lead a hike along the Cape Sebastian Trail south of Gold Beach. Geologist Maggie McHugh will talk about the cretaceous-aged Cape Sebastian sandstone and holoclasty. Meet at 9:15 a.m. at either Coastal Cardiology, 412 Alder St., Brookings, or at Battle Rock State Wayside in Port Orford, or at 10 a.m. at Curry General Hospital, 94220 Fourth St., Gold Beach. Cars will be parked at the Myers Creek pullout with others transporting hikers to the viewpoint parking lot. Walkers will hike three miles along a trail that makes a 700-foot descent then follows the beach.

•The Azalea Quilt Guild will mee in the Driftwood Estates Mobile Home Park community room, 16063 Driftwood Lane, Harbor. Fun Day beigns at 10 a.m. Participants will be sewing on 2 1/2-inch strips and 4 1/2-inch batik strips for projects of their choice. Blocks will be based on the strips to make 4-, 6-, 8-, 10- or 12-inch blocks. Social time will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend. •Friends of Brookings-Harbor Aquatic Center will host a State of the Aquatic Center Community Forum in the Chetco Community Public Library large meeting room, 405 Alder St., Brookings. The meeting is to inform the community of the progress as well as gain feedback regarding an aquatic center in Brookings. •Oasis Shelter Home provides a haven for women and their children to be free of domestic violence, sexual abuse and resulting homelessness. •The Pregnancy Care Center – also known as P.C.C. Connections – of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. •CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
