Wednesday, March 28

•The Wednesday Farmers Market is reopening for the season from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chetco Grange Community Center, 97895 Shopping Center Ave., Harbor. The market will be open every Wednesday through Dec. 31. An open house, “Meet the Local Food Producers,” will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 7.

•South Coast Linux Users Group meets at 7 p.m. in the Chetco Community Public Library small conference room, 405 Alder St., Brookings. How to install, update and use this free and open source computer operating system will be discussed. Meetings are open to everyone. There are no dues or fees. •Whale Watching Spoken Here signs will mark the location where trained volunteers will be available for the spring Whale Watch Week from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily through Saturday, March 31. Local sites are at Battle Rock in Port Orford, on Cape Ferrelo north of Brookings, at Harris Beach State Park in Brookings, and at Brother Jonathan Point in Crescent City.

Master Gardeners will be available to help with plant identification, plant problems, diseases and insects, and to give suggestions on what might grow best in the area. •“Lonesome Wolf: The life and times of OR-7” the tale of a wolf traveling across Oregon and Northern California, will be presented by the Friends of Del Norte Conservation Council at 7 p.m. at College of the Redwoods Del Norte, 883 W. Washington Blvd., Crescent City.

•An Orchid and Carnivorous Plant Show and Sale, sponsored by Siskiyou Coast Orchid Club, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harbor Water District meeting room, 98069 W. Benham Lane. •The annual Brookings-Harbor Home Show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at  Kalmiopsis Elementary School, 650 Easy St., Brookings. Admission is $1. The show will also be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1. 

•The SOLVE Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In Curry County, registration sites are at the Harris Beach Rest Area welcome center, Port of Gold Beach parking lot, Ophir State Recreation Site, and the Battle Rock Wayside in Port Orford.

•Chetco Chatterers from Brookings and Coastmasters from Crescent City will have a Toastmasters speech contest from 10:30 a.m. to noon at House of Howonquet at Lucky 7 Casino, 350 N. Indian Road, Smith River. The event involves four contestants speaking for 5 to 7 minutes. The winner will advance to a contest in Grants Pass. The public is invited.

•The Pregnancy Care Center of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. •CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
