The eighth annual Slam’n Salmon Derby will kick off at the Port of Brookings Harbor and continue daily through 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. Derby registration can be done online at http://www.slamnsalmon.com or by calling the port at 541-469-2018. The derby will be capped by a salmon barbecue on Sunday. At 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, he will visit the Slam’n Salmon Ocean Derby at the Port of Brookings Harbor.

Trash Dogs will meet at 9 a.m. in front of the Fred Meyer garden center, 325 Fifth St., Brookings. The group will clean up its adopted section of Carpenterville Road. Wear clothes and footwear appropriate for picking up trash. Cookies, drinking water, gloves and a first aid kit will be available.

The 11th annual Agness Fire Department Steak Feed will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agness School Day Park. The cost is $10 for general and $5 for children 8 and younger. There will be times of praying together and praying while the group walks around each school building to support our students, teachers, staff and administration. Tuesday, Sept. 4

The third-annual Lower Rogue River Salmon Derby will begin 6 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. The derby will include events and prizes. Proceeds benefit the Indian Creek Fish Hatchery. For more information, visit http://www.rogueriversalmon.org. 

The Compassionate Friends meets from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Chetco Community Public Library at 405 Alder St., Brookings. The Pregnancy Care Center of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. Oasis Shelter Home provides a haven for women and their children to be free of domestic violence, sexual abuse and resulting homelessness. Oasis offers a women’s peer support group in Gold Beach that is open to the public. Call 541-247-7600 or 800-447-1167 for dates, times and assistance.

CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
