•Brookings-Harbor High School presents Gear Up Choices Post Secondary Night and Gear Up for High School Parent information Night. Master Gardeners will be available to help with plant identification, plant problems, diseases and insects, and to give suggestions on what might grow best in the area. After a brief meeting, Marilyn Hart will discuss the historical and scientific significance of an upcoming annular solar eclipse and the transit of Venus. Refreshments will be served. •The Port Orford Water Festival will kick off with a keynote address from Oregon First Lady Cylvia Hayes from 6 to 9 p.m. at Driftwood Elementary School. The festival will continue from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Port Orford Community Building and the American Legion Hall. •The Brookings-Harbor Garden Club meets at the Brookings Inn Resort conference room, 1143 Chetco Ave. Social time begins at 11 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30. Afterward, member Jerry Holcomb  will present a photo show of her garden, about which she refers to occasionally in her Curry Coastal Pilot column. Tuesday, April 17

•Coastal Rebels meet at 1 p.m. at Flying Gull Restaurant, 1153 Chetco Ave., Brookings.

•League of Women Voters will have its first in a series of candidate forums from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Gold Beach City Hall council chambers, 29592 Ellensburg Ave. The nine Curry County commissioner candidates have been invited. Forums will also be in Port Orford and Brookings.

•The Pregnancy Care Center of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. The center is open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Client classes are offered on Tuesdays. •CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The resource center also hosts Tea at Ten group meetings every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. For information, call 541-469-2072.
