Monday, Dec. 5

Tuesday, Dec. 6

•The Compassionate Friends meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings. The organization is a self-help bereavement group for those whose child, grandchild or sibling has died at any age from any cause. For information, call 541-469-5814.

•Veterans of Foreign Wars will host an indoor tailgate party at 5:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 507 Pacific Ave., Brookings. Monday Night Football will be shown on a large-screen TV and food will be served. The event will be every Monday through football season. For information, call 541-412-7214.

•Pelican Bay Arts Association general meeting will be at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. A short business meeting begins at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch. Instead of a demonstration there will be a “recycled” gift exchange.

•The second annual “Dress Up for the Holidays” fashion show and festival of desserts will benefit CC’s Clothes for Cancer at 1:30 p.m. at Sea View Senior Living Center, 98059 Gerlach Lane, Harbor.

•Cancer Support Group, for those diagnosed with cancer and their friends and family, meets from 10 to 11 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God, 518 Fir St., Brookings. Use the side entrance facing Oak Street. For information, call 541-469-2631.

•The Gold Beach Chute Out features bull riding and barrel racing at 7 p.m. at the Event Center on the Beach, 29392 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach, with the rock band Crush playing for a dance after the competition. The rodeo and dance will also be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, Advance tickets are $9 or $13 at the gate. Children 4 and younger are free. Saturday, Dec. 10

•Sole Pursuits hosts the sixth annual Elk River Salmon Walk. Ken Fliszar, of the Elk River Fish Hatchery, will lead walkers up Elk River Road to view salmon spawning. A hatchery tour will follow. To car pool, meet at 8:30 a.m. at Coastal Cardiology, 412 Alder St., Brookings; at 9:15 a.m. at Curry General Hospital, 94220 Fourth St., Gold Beach; or 10 a.m. at Battle Rock State Wayside in Port Orford.

•Oasis Shelter Home provides a haven for women and their children to be free of domestic violence, sexual abuse and resulting homelessness. •The Pregnancy Care Center – also known as P.C.C. Connections – of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. The center is open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Client classes are offered at 2 p.m. Wednesdays. For information about classes or about the center, call 541-469-1846. •CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The resource center also hosts Tea at Ten group meetings every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. For information, call 541-469-2072.
