Saturday, Oct. 5

Knights of Columbus will host an Octoberfest dinner of German food, featuring Sam Vitale’s bratwurst, served from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Star of the Sea parish hall, 820 Old County Road, Brookings. The cost is $10 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12 and free for those 5 and younger. Proceeds benefit education programs for children in Honduras.

Muscle Busters hiking group will trek the Oregon Coast Trail from Nesika Beach to Wedderburn. The hike, which was rescheduled from last weekend, is 8 miles and has an elevation gain of 430 feet. Wear well-worn hiking shoes, bring a lunch and water. Meet at 8 a.m. in the parking lot next to Dr. Larsson’s office, 414 Alder St., Brookings. Master Gardeners will present a workshop titled “Planning and Planting a Kitchen Garden” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at the Port Orford Senior Center, 1536 Jackson St. The workshop will include two morning sessions followed by a tour of gardens. The Brookings Volunteer Firefighters will host a fundraising family dinner and raffle at 4 p.m. in the Brookings-Harbor High School cafeteria. Garage Sale Saturday in Brookings-Harbor is all day at about 100  locations throughout the community. 

The Rotary Club of Brookings-Harbor presents Raining Cats & Dogs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port of Brookings Harbor kite field on Boat Basin Road.  A helicopter will be dropping toy cats and dogs on a target to determine a raffle winner.

Trash Dogs will meet at 9 a.m. at the Fred Meyer garden center area, 325 Fifth St., Brookings, and will head up to Wilson Creek Road to remove trash.

Temple Beth Shalom meets at 10 a.m. for the first class discussing the 613 Laws of Halacha at the temple, 956 J St., Crescent City. There will be six classes, which will alternate between Crescent City and Brookings. The cost for the course is $30.

The Del Norte County 4-H program holds its annual Soup Supper and Country Auction from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds, 421 Highway 101 N., Crescent City.

The Surfrider Foundation Del Norte Chapter offers free surf lessons at its Beach Gathering and Art Contest from noon to 5 p.m. at South Beach along Highway 101 in Crescent City.

The final Farmers & Artisans Market is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Port of Brookings Harbor boardwalk. 

The Saturday Farmer’s Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds parking lot, 421 Highway 101 N., Crescent City.

A vendors market operates every Saturday outside Oceanside Diner at the Port of Brookings Harbor.

The Chetco Valley Museum holds its annual Cider on Sunday event from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum, 15461 Museum Road, Harbor. Antique cider presses will be on hand for people to bring their apples to make juice; pie contests and apple desserts are planned.

A beach grass pulling party will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Tolowa Dunes State Park, 2591 Old Mill Road, Crescent City. Volunteers are advised to dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and a hat, bring water, snacks and sunscreen. The event is cancelled if it’s raining. For information, call 707-954-5253.

Love Your Neighbor, an outreach of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, distributes free sack lunches from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church, 401 Fir St., Brookings. The lunch includes a sandwich, fruit, snack, bottled water and coffee.  For more information, call 541-469-3314.
