Friends of the Chetco Library will have a short business meeting at 10:45 a.m. to elect officers for the coming year. At 11 a.m., Dan Sawyer of Gold Beach will present a seaweed workshop. He will teach how to identify the various types found in the area, and how to harvest and use them as food and medicine. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.

Kalmiopsis Audubon Society will lead a birding field trip to Pistol River. Meet at 8 a.m. at the parking lot at the northeast corner of Alder Street and Spruce Drive. The Port of Brookings Harbor presents Harvest at the Harbor from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Farmers and Artisans Market at the boardwalk. The Brookings-Harbor Shoe Exchange will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Brookings Elks Lodge lower level, 800 Elk Drive. Shoes of different styles are available in all sizes. All are in good shape and are available for free. Donations of shoes in any condition are accepted at shoe bins at Ray’s Food Place in Brookings, Shop Smart in Harbor, Smith River School and Julindra Recycling in Crescent City. The annual Sea Cruise Car Show in Crescent City will include a Show and Shine from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Beachfront Park. Sound Stage Revue is the featured band for the dance at 8  p.m. Saturday at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds, 421 Highway 101 N.

The annual induction dinner for the Brookings-Harbor High School Hall of Fame is at 6 p.m. at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings.

The Friends of Unitarian Universalists will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the Evergreen Federal Bank, meeting room, 850 Chetco Ave., Brookings. The program will be a group discussion on the Unitarian third principle: “Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregation.”

Friday, Oct. 18

Erev Shabbat services will be at 7 p.m. at Temple Beth Shalom, 956 J St., Crescent City.

The Pistol River Oktoberfest will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road. Tickets for adults are $10 and the menu includes brats, potato salad, baked beans, sauerkraut and dessert. Tickets for children younger than 12 are $5 and the menu include hot dogs, baked beans and dessert. Tickets are available at Gold Beach Books. The event will also include live music, a dessert auction, raffle and door prizes.
