Temple Beth Shalom meets at 11 a.m. for a Kabbalah class in the Curry Coastal Pilot conference room, 507 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Enter through the red back doors on Art Walk Alley.

Pennies for Pooches will be offering a barbecue lunch of hot dogs, chips and soda beginning shortly after 9 a.m. and continuing until the food runs out. Donations will support the Curry County Animal Shelter in Gold Beach. The event will be at the Gold Beach Lumber Co. locations at 16016 Highway 101, Harbor, and 28680 Hunter Creek Loop, Gold Beach.

The spring Garage Sale Saturday will be at locations throughout the Brookings-Harbor area. Look for the complete list and a map of sales in a special classified ads section in today’s issue. 

The first Curry County CASA Spring Fling auction, dinner and dance as a fundraiser for foster children at 5:30 p.m. at the Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Drive.

The annual Del Norte County CASA “Chip in for Kids” Golf Tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. at the Del Norte Golf Course, 130 Club Drive, Crescent City.

Wild Feline Rescue and the Humane Society of Del Norte stage their 19th annual benefit auction at 7 p.m. at the Betty Green Event Center of Elk Valley Casino, 2332 Howland Hill Road, Crescent City.

A beach grass pulling party will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Tolowa Dunes State Park, 2591 Old Mill Road, Crescent City. Volunteers are advised to dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and a hat, bring water, snacks and sunscreen. The event is cancelled if it’s raining. For information, call 707-954-5253.

Pistol River Friendship Club hosts a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road. Travel Oregon will meet to kick-off a community-based rural tourism development program called the Rural Tourism Studio, which will start in the fall. The event will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Showcase Building at the Event Center on the Beach, 29392 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach.
