Saturday Walk N Talks will offer a spring birding event. Meet at the Harris Beach State Parking campground entrance booth parking lot at 2 p.m. for this one-hour hike.

Curry County Progressives will gather for a no-host luncheon at 11 a.m. at Sunset Family Pizza, 29790 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach. For more information, call 541-813-1709.

CASA of Del Norte will host its 15th annual Chip in for Kids golf tournament at Del Norte Golf Course on Highway 197 in Hiouchi. Proceeds will benefit children in foster care. St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church will serve soup, desserts, coffee and tea in the church parish hall, 401 Fir St., Brookings. Donations will be accepted for St. Timothy’s Community Gardenshare and the Brookings-Harbor Food Bank Garden Project. There will be a container garden and vermicomposting demonstration.

The Waterfront Boardwalk Ball will be at 5:30 p.m. will be in a tent at the Port of Brookings Harbor boardwalk. The event, which benefits CASA of Curry County, will include a catered meal, dancing, live music, raffles, drawings, and live and silent auctions. Tickets are $65 and may be purchased online at http://www.casaofcurrycounty.org.

A beach grass pulling party will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Tolowa Dunes State Park, 2591 Old Mill Road, Crescent City. Volunteers are advised to dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and a hat, bring water, snacks and sunscreen. For information, call 707-954-5253.

Curry County Cruisers will have a car show from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Les Schwab Tire Center parking lot, 801 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Attendees are requested to bring a $2 donation or two non-perishable food items for the food bank. The car show will be every Wednesday through September.

Friday, May 9

The Azalea Scholarship Pageant will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookings Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Ave. Five princesses will compete for the crown to reign over the 75th Azalea Festival. Admission is $5. A reception will follow.

The Ruby Van Deventer Wildflower Show will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Del Norte County Fairgrounds, 421 Highway 101 N., Crescent City. The show will feature displays of wildflowers and carnivorous plants, as well as Native American uses of plants and the geology of the area. The 27th annual America’s Wild Rivers Coast Wine and Music Festival will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Event Center on the Beach, 29392 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach. The festival will continue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10. Admission on Friday is $10, Saturday is $12 or a two-day pass is $15 for guests 21 and older, which includes a limited-edition, commemorative wine glass and a free tasting. Guests younger than 21 are admitted free.

The Pregnancy Care Center of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. Oasis Shelter Home provides a haven for women and their children to be free of domestic violence, sexual abuse and resulting homelessness. CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues.
