Saturday, July 13

The American Cancer Society’s Curry County Relay for Life walks for cancer awareness and fundraising, starting at noon and continuing all night until 8 a.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Brookings-Harbor High School track.

Rotary Party in the Park will be from noon to 4 p.m. at Buffington Park in Gold Beach. A picnic lunch, which includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon and a soft drink will be served for $7 for general and $4 for children 12 and younger. The event will feature free carnival games and prizes for children. The event benefits 4-H.

Pennies for Pooches hosts the first Charity Golf Tournament at Cedar Bend Golf Course, 34391 Cedar Valley Road, Gold Beach.  The cost is $65, which includes nine holes of golf and dinner. The event will feature five-person teams in a shotgun start Texas scramble-style tournament.  In addition, there will be a raffle and silent auction. The 44th annual Gasquet Raft Races begin at 10 a.m. at the confluence of the middle and north forks of the Smith River in Gasquet.

The Brookings-Harbor Shoe Exchange will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Brookings Elks Lodge lower level, 800 Elk Drive. Shoes of different styles are available in all sizes. All are in good shape and are available for free. Lovin’ Lichens will be presented by Tom Carlberg, U.S. Forest Service botanist, during a walk from 1 to 4 p.m. at Tolowa Dunes State Park. The Pregnancy Care Center of Brookings, located at 344 Pacific Ave., offers free and confidential pregnancy tests, education on all pregnancy options, parenting classes, baby and maternity items and more. CC’s Cancer Resource Center offers free counseling and resource options daily to women addressing cancer issues. The resource center is inside CC’s Upscale Resale Clothing Store in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center in Harbor. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
