Auditions for “The Grinch” will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. The Grinch will be portrayed by Bruce Ellis; additional parts include the mayor and his wife, Max the dog, Cindy Lou Who along with her parents and siblings, as well as a Whos in all ages and sizes.
Gil Kirk performs vocals and piano from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sebastian’s Seafood Grill, 16011 Boat Basin Road, Harbor. He also performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. For information, call 541-412-7977.

Pelican Bay Arts Association will meet at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. The board will meet at its new time, 10 a.m. followed by a general meeting at 11 and a potluck at noon. There will be no demonstration this month. A social time will follow the potluck. Chetco Pelican Players presents the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein” at 7:30 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Final shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. Tickets $12 for adults and $5 for students and are available at Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts and Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings, at New Wave Video in Harbor and at the door. Gary Lowdon performs on saxophone from 6 to 9 p.m. at O’Holleran’s Restaurant and Lounge, 1210 Chetco Ave., Brookings. He also performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The 112th Second Saturday Art Walk will be in downtown Brookings from 4 to 7 p.m. Venues will be near Chetco Avenue, Oak Street, Railroad Street and Art Walk Alley.
Novelist Peter Nathaniel Malae will discuss and sign copies of his new book, “Our Frail Blood,” at 2 p.m. at Gold Beach, Books, 29707 Ellensburg Ave. Admission is free. Those unable to attend may pre-order signed copies by calling the bookstore at 541-247-2495.
Brookings Harbor Community Theater will hold auditions for the youth production “Puss in Boots” at 10 a.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave.

Friends of Music will hold its first concert of the 2013-14 season — featuring pianist Frank Wiens — at 3 p.m. at Brookings Second-day Adventist Church,102 Park Ave. Wiens will perform an all-Edvard Greig program. The a capella group Purely Voice will perform at 11 a.m. at the Curry Public Library, 94341 Third St., Gold Beach. The group will present a selection of Broadway show tunes.
