The 112th Second Saturday Art Walk will be in downtown Brookings from 4 to 7 p.m. Venues will be near Chetco Avenue, Oak Street, Railroad Street and Art Walk Alley.
Novelist Peter Nathaniel Malae will discuss and sign copies of his new book, “Our Frail Blood,” at 2 p.m. at Gold Beach, Books, 29707 Ellensburg Ave. Admission is free. Those unable to attend may pre-order signed copies by calling the bookstore at 541-247-2495.
Brookings Harbor Community Theater will hold auditions for the youth production “Puss in Boots” at 10 a.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave.
Chetco Pelican Players presents the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein” at 7:30 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. The final show will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. Tickets $12 for adults and $5 for students and are available at Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts and Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings, at New Wave Video in Harbor and at the door. Friends of Music will hold its first concert of the 2013-14 season — featuring pianist Frank Wiens — at 3 p.m. at Brookings Second-day Adventist Church,102 Park Ave. Wiens will perform an all-Edvard Greig program. “Creative Mondays” take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Attendees may come for only part of the day if wished; a 3 p.m. critique is encouraged. This is not limited to painters, but for any artwork a person wants to work on. The a capella group Purely Voice will perform at 11 a.m. at the Curry Public Library, 94341 Third St., Gold Beach. The group will present a selection of Broadway show tunes.
Thursday, Oct. 24
Award-winning Brookings artist Pete Chasar will be giving Fourth Thursday Demo at noon at Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. He will be painting a redwood scene with acrylics using a technique he calls “graphic realism.” A finger-food luncheon will precede the demonstration at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
The Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association presents its second performance of the season, pianist Dale Gonyea, at 7:30 p.m. in Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St., Crescent City. Chetco Pelican Players hosts its 10th annual haunted house, “Club Dead — Discover Exotic Destinations” nightly through Halloween. This year the event will be at the former Torero’s Restaurant building, 777 Cottage St., Brookings. It will be open 7 to 10 p.m. week nights and 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Halloween. Admission is $10.
