Saturday, May 4

A week of Russian Culture begins courtesy of the Mildred Hill Concert Series, Triangle Square Art and Port Orford and Langlois libraries. “The Art of Praise,” a show of paintings and sculptures, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Triangle Square Art, 343 Sixth St., Port Orford. 

Jurassic Country performs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ship Ashore Resort, 12370 Highway 101, Smith River.

The Hootenanny Singalong meets from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings. All ages, instruments and voices are welcome. The event is free. For more information, call 541-469-6787.

Sunday, May 5

A week of Russian Culture, sponsored by the Mildred Hill Concert Series, Triangle Square Art and Port Orford and Langlois libraries, will include a panel discussion  on the connections between Christianity and Orthodox Russian Christianity from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Port Orford Library, 1421 Oregon St. The talk will be about the orthodox ways in the discipline of words, music and art. 

Monday, May 6

The monthly art change-out day will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. The May theme is “Earth’s Four Elements.” For more information, call Jane Opiat at 541-469-1246, or the gallery at 541-469-1807.

“Creative Mondays” take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Attendees may come for only part of the day if wished; a 3 p.m. critique is encouraged. This is not limited to painters, but for any artwork a person wants to work on. Tuesday, May 7

A week of Russian Culture, sponsored by the Mildred Hill Concert Series, Triangle Square Art and Port Orford and Langlois libraries, will include a showing of the Russian film “Russian Art,” a 2002 historical drama, at the Port Orford Library, 1421 Oregon St.

Thursday, May 9

Pelican Bay Arts Association general meeting will be at the Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. The meeting will be at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck at noon. At 12:30 p.m., George Cady will discuss copyright issues.

A week of Russian Culture, sponsored by the Mildred Hill Concert Series, Triangle Square Art and Port Orford and Langlois libraries, presents five singers from St. Petersburg, Russia, performing church music and folk songs. They sing a capella in old Russian and explain the connections to modern music as well as the liturgical connections between Christianity and Orthodox Russian Christianity. Admission is $10 for adults and free for those younger than 18.

Friday, May 10

Auditions for the TV inspired “Cop Kids The Animated Series, Episode 7: Mystery in My Plant,” will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Azalea Park stage. Writer and Director Steven Dornbusch needs 20 young people in grades eight through 12. Performances will be in September at the Chetco Playhouse. Shawn Ratnour and friends will perform at 7 p.m. at Vista Pub, 1009 Chetco Ave., Brookings.

Stagelights Musical Arts Community presents the  acoustic duo Bill and Kate Isles singing and storytelling at 7:30 p.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Theater, 97900 Shopping Center Ave.

The sixth annual Ruby Van Deventer Wildflower Show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds, 421 Highway 101 N., Crescent City. The show will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11.

Saturday, May 11

The Act!vated Story Theatre will perform at 2 p.m. at the Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings. The event is free and open to the public. A pre-show workshop for children 6 and older will begin at 1:30. To enroll children, call Dori Blodgett at 541-469-7738.

The 107th Second Saturday Art Walk will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at venues within walking distance of Chetco Avenue, Oak Street and Art Walk Alley. Special events, music and art will be highlighted.

The Pistol River Concert Association presents Tracy Grammer at 8 p.m. at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road, Pistol River.  Admission is $15. Tickets are available at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings and Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach.

Art Exhibits

Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City: Featured is Oregon artist Eva Marie Tanner-Klaas who draws, paints and works in ceramics. Also on display are pieces by other gallery members. For information, call 707-464-9133.
