A celebration of life for artist Liz James will be during an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings.
Brian Scott Gallery will host a Second Saturday Art Event from 4 to 7 p.m. at the gallery, 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings. At 5 p.m. Thomas Sheets will talk, followed by a reading by Cecilia Johnson at 5:30. The evening will end at 6 p.m. with ragtime pieces performed by Christie Dolan. Refreshments will be served. The event is free.
The Pistol River Concert Association presents The Quiet Americans with bassist Ronnie Ontiveros in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road, Pistol River. Friends of Music will host its second annual Young Artists Concert and Scholarship Award at 3 p.m. at Brookings Seventh-day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave. Three finalists will perform during this free concert.

“Creative Mondays” take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Attendees may come for only part of the day if wished; a 3 p.m. critique is encouraged. This is not limited to painters, but for any artwork a person wants to work on. The Chetco Pelican Players present its Packy Awards to the best actors and shows of the 2013 season during a masquerade-theme gala. The event will be at 7 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Doors open at 6:15. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth younger than 18. Youth who participated in a show during the season are admitted free.

Award-winning photographer Jon Parmentier will be the artist for the Fourth Thursday Art Demonstration at Crescent Harbor Art Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Azalea Middle School Music Department hosts a luncheon and silent auction from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school cafeteria, 505 Pacific Ave., Brookings. The cost is $10 per person and includes lunch, a beverage and dessert. Tickets are available from music students, the school office or at the door.
