Arts Scene April 3, 2013

Wednesday, April 3

Gil Kirk performs vocals and piano from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sebastian’s Seafood Grill, 16011 Boat Basin Road, Harbor. He also performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. For information, call 541-412-7977.

Thursday, April 4

Pato Banton and The Now Generation will perform a free reggae concert at 9 p.m. at 101 Bar and Grill, 98141 W. Benham Lane, Harbor. Opening the concert will be local musician Sequoyah Oregon. Those attending must be 21 or older.

Friday, April 5

Jerry Moffit performs on keyboard from 6 to 9 p.m. at Nautical Inn, 16850 Highway 101, Smith River.

Gary Lowdon performs on saxophone from 6 to 9 p.m. at O’Holleran’s Restaurant and Lounge, 1210 Chetco Ave., Brookings. He also performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Old Time Music Jam will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at  Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings. Musicians of all ages are welcome. For information, call 541-469-6822.

Hootenanny Singalong meets from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings. All ages, instruments and voices are welcome. The event is free. For information, call 541-469-6787.

A hip-hop and rock concert will be from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds benefit the Brookings-Harbor Community Helpers Food Bank.

Thursday, April 11

Pelican Bay Arts Association will meet at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. The meeting will be at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck.  At 12:30  p.m., Frank (Gus) Gustafson will demonstrate oil painting.  Gustafson is artist of the month. The gallery theme for April is “Close Ups.”

Friday, April 12

Chetco Pelican Players presents “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at 7:30 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Shows will also be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, as well as the following two weekends. Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for students and are available at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies and Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor and at the door. The 106th Second Saturday Art Walk will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at venues along Chetco Avenue, Oak Street and Art Walk Alley. Special events, music and art will be highlighted.

Monday, April 15

Brookings Harbor Community Theater will hold auditions for the original musical “Summer Love,” by Brookings residents Gil Kirk and Karl Sandstrom, at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. Director Shirley Hyatt is seeking four lead actors. Chetco Pelican Players will hold auditions for “Harvey” at 6:30 p.m. at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Art Exhibits

Brian Scott and Signatures, 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings:  Features Elio Camacho’s still life, and ocean and river view oil paintings. New works are on display by Jennifer Smith of graphic images done in tempera. Also on display are Sandy Bonney’s pastels of old, young and lived-in hands. For information, call 541-412-8687.
