Wednesday, May 21

The districtwide Del Norte Instrumental Night will be at 7 p.m. in the main gym at Del Norte High School, 1301 El Dorado St., Crescent City.  Fifth to 12th grade band students from around the county will participate. A donation will be requested at the door. Proceeds go to support scholarships for the North Coast Summer Band Camp in August.  For more information, call the high school music room at 707-464-0272.

Thursday, May 22

The Fourth Thursday art demonstration will be at noon, preceded by a potluck at 11:30 a.m. at Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Elio Camacho will demonstrate how he creates a still life in oils. Jon Parmentier is the artist of the month. His pieces, along with works by other gallery members, are on display. Friday, May 23

Brookings Harbor Community Theater presents “Cinderella’s Glass Slipper” at 7:30 p.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. Shows will also be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, as well as the following weekend. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for students and children.  Tickets are available at New Wave Video in Harbor, Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings, and at the door. Saturday, May 24

Elk Valley Casino presents American Young, with special guests Billy Lund and Whiskey Weekend, in concert at 8 p.m. at the casino, 2500 Howland Hill Road, Crescent City. Tickets are $20 and are available at the casino, online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 707-465-2666. People must be 21 or older to attend.

Mandala Art Studio, 94212 Third St., Gold Beach, will host a grand opening celebration from 2 to 5 p.m. Live music will be performed and refreshments served. The featured artist will be Bozena Palmquist, a Qigong teacher and meditation instructor whose art is rooted in the study of geometry and mandalas. For more information, call 541-425-0332.

Sunday, May 25

Four Shillings Short will perform at 2 p.m. on the Langlois Public Library patio, 48234 Highway 101. The program is titled “A Celebration of Ireland — Music, Poetry and Stories from the Irish Tradition.” 

Saturday, May 31

A Fifth Saturday Dance will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Chetco Grange Community Center, 97895 Shopping Center Ave., Harbor. Admission is by donation. Boy Scouts Troop 32 will be present with its own fundraise: Members will be serving desserts and ice cream for donations.

Grammy Award-winning musician Doug Smith will perform in concert at the Rogue Playhouse, 94196 Moore St., Gold Beach. He will perform contemporary music on guitar and vocals. Doors open at 7 p.m. with a no-host wine and beer bar. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15 and available at the Coffee Dock or Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach, or at the door.

Sunday, June 1

The American Music Festival will begin its 2014 season of concerts in Azalea Park. The Jesse Goergen Crew will perform at 1 p.m. at the bandshell. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted.

Tuesday, June 3

Brookings Harbor Community Theater will hold auditions for the musical production of “Lady Pirates of Captain Bree” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. For more information, call Director Lynette McPherson at 541-414-4810.
