Art Scene March 29, 2014

Saturday, March 29

Chetco Grange 765 will host a community dance with live music from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Chetco Grange Community Center, 97895 Shopping Center Ave., Harbor. There is no cover charge. Everything is available by donation, including refreshments by PEO sisterhood. Music will be provided by Jurassic Country.

The father-and-son blues duo Twice as Good performs at 8 p.m. at Lucky 7 Casino, 350 N. Indian Road, Smith River. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Tolowa Event Center at the casino. For information, 707-487-7777.

Curry/Del Norte Orchestra presents Symphony by the Sea in concert at 8 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 Fifth St., Gold Beach. Admission is $10 for adults and free for youth though grade 12. Ticket outlets are Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach, Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City, Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings and at the door.

A Writer’s Workshop sponsored by the Port Orford and Langlois public libraries will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Port Orford Public Library, 1421 Oregon St. The workshop will be led by Willa Schneberg, a sculptor, poet and visual artist from Portland. Friends of Music presents Adam LaMotte and The Orchestra in concert at 3 p.m. at Brookings Seventh-day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave. Tickets are $20 and are available at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings, Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City and at the door. “Creative Mondays” take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Crescent City. Attendees may come for only part of the day if wished; a 3 p.m. critique is encouraged. This is not limited to painters, but for any artwork a person wants to work on. Tuesday, April 1

Chetco Pelican Players holds auditions for the musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at 6:30 p.m. at Evergreen Federal Bank, 850 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Those auditioning should bring their own song to sing with or without music. Roles are available for men and women of all ages.

Friday, April 4

The springtime Crescent City Art Walk will occur from 4 to 7 p.m. at the harbor and downtown areas.  Each venue will feature visual art and refreshments.  For more information, call Barbara Burke at 707-464-4745.

Saturday, April 5

Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association presents the Italian Saxophone Quartet in concert at 3 p.m. at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St., Crescent City. Tickets are $15 at the door for adults, and free for children and students with ID.  2014-15 season tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door and cost $40 for four concerts. Pelican Bay Arts Association will hold its general meeting at 11 a.m. with a potluck lunch following at Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a drawing demonstration by Rob Decker. The gallery theme for April is “Rain.” The featured artist is photographer Richard Leathers.
