Drinking water update
September 15, 2014 10:01 am

As of today (Monday, Sept. 15), Brookings tap water remains safe to drink and will likely remain so, city officials said.

Meanwhile, tap water in Harbor still contains some ocean water and, while it does not pose a health hazard to most people, Harbor residents with sensitive stomachs or on low sodium diets are encouraged to drink bottled water or obtain water from an alternative source.

The salt water intrusion into Harbor’s water is likely to continue until significant rain increases the flow of the Chetco River and keeps the ocean tides at bay.

Brian Scott: Brookings art supporter dies at 75
September 12, 2014 07:58 pm

Brian Scott, left, and Horst Wolf hold Wolf’s watercolor portrait of Scott that was honored at an art show in 2004.

Longtime Brookings resident Brian Scott was not an artist, but he was an aficionado who dedicated himself to supporting local artists and helped build what has become a thriving art community in his hometown.

Scott died Friday at age 75 after a two-year battle with kidney failure.

The public is invited to say a few words and raise a glass to toast Scott at the conclusion of the regularly scheduled Second Saturday Art Walk from 4-6 p.m. today (Sept. 13) at the Brian Scott Gallery
