The Border Coast Regional Airport Authority Board on Thursday selected PenAir as the new airline carrier for the Crescent City airport.
Which airline will take over area skies after SkyWest's contract ends is up to the DOT.
Skywest currently has no scheduled flights in or out of Crescent City after April 6, though the DOT is expected to issue a hold-in order March 18. PenAir has proposed making its first flight to Portland from Crescent City Sept. 15.
A letter of recommendation signed by BCAA Chair David Finnigan will be bundled with letters from the public and sent to the DOT Friday morning.
The public comment period will continue through March 11. The airline proposals are online at flycrescentcity.com/category/public-documents.
