Sutter Coast Hospital can trace its roots back to 1931 as a small, privately funded hospital located on the Crescent City waterfront. Today, Sutter Coast is a modern, 59-bed facility, licensed by both California and Oregon, and provides healthcare services throughout the region. Sutter Coast Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™; a distinction reserved only for Joint Commission accredited and certified organizations. An affiliate of Sutter Health, one of the country’s leading not-for-profit health networks, Sutter Coast Hospital offers the resources of a multi-hospital health system with local, community-based governance. The hospital has a volunteer Board of Trustees composed of citizens from Curry and Del Norte counties that provide direction and guidance for the hospital and numerous specialty clinics in Crescent City and Brookings. Sutter Coast Hospital is one of the largest private employers in the region, providing more than 400 jobs. As a not-for-profit organization, the hospital provides charity care, health education and community benefit programs totaling over $11 million annually.
Sutter Coast Health Center Walk-In Clinic offers prompt treatment for non-life-threatening medical problems. Staffed by qualified, licensed physician assistants, family nurse practitioners, and nurses, the health center offers daily walk-in services as a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the Emergency Room. The Health Center is open seven days a week, every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. No appointment is necessary.The hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Walk-In Clinic is located at 785 East Washington Boulevard, Crescent City (across the street from Sutter Coast Hospital), (707) 464-8818. Sutter Coast Health Center @ Brookings Harbor is staffed by two board-certified internal medicine physicians: Alex Leighton, M.D., and Juliane Leighton, M.D. Patients can be seen at Sutter Coast Health Center @ Brookings-Harbor Monday-Friday. It is located at 555 5th Street, Suite 2, Brookings, Ore., (541) 469-9205. Sutter Coast Home Care brings a variety of services into the home. Licensed Home Health nurses work under the direction of a physician to assist with patient teaching, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, catheter care and other complex nursing procedures. Licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, medical social workers and certified home health aides are also available to provide care in the home setting. Since then, the medical staff has grown to include five physicians and a nurse-midwife.
