Man guilty of having 2 teens burglarize Brookings home |
GOLD BEACH – A 53-year-old Crescent City, Calif., man was convicted Wednesday of soliciting burglary for having two Brookings area boys break into a Dotson Lane home to steal items he promised to sell for them. Frank Dennis Lindberg was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 24 months’ probation and to pay $937. In exchange for his guilty plea, District Attorney Everett Dial agreed to drop charges of tampering with physical evidence and misdemeanor theft. He also recommended that the charge be downgraded from a felony requiring up to 14 months’ prison, leaving a jail sentence instead. “There was a burglary in a home by two juveniles. The defendant told them he would sell the items for them. He never participated in the burglary,” Dial told the court. “I know I did wrong,” Lindberg said. “If kids come around again, I’m going to turn them in.” Judge Jesse Margolis asked Corrections Sgt. Zora Morris if there was room in the jail. “We’ve got a couple of beds now, but we have Fourth of July weekend coming up,” Morris replied. “It sounds like there is not space available,” Margolis said as he sentenced Lindberg to 30 days in jail. “I’m not giving you credit for time you’ve spent in jail,” the judge said. “I would give you 90 days if I could, but I can’t find space available in jail.” Margolis gave the state 90 days to submit restitution. Lindberg was arrested June 6 and had been held in the Curry County Jail on $50,000 security. Lindberg was arrested shortly after sheriff’s officers were notified of the burglary. “The owner of the residence had returned home the night before and found that his residence had been broken into and burglarized. A list of missing items was obtained and an investigation was started by Deputy Joel Hensley,” Sheriff John Bishop said. The sheriff said that during the investigation, Hensley received information and evidence that led to the arrest of Lindberg and the two boys. “It was learned that the adult was having the juveniles engage in the burglary and then helped them get rid of the property,” Bishop said. Lindberg was taken to the county jail while the boys were taken to the juvenile detention facility in Del Norte County, where Bishop said they were charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief. |
